Blackjack,
or 21, is one the most popular casino games.
The object of the game is
to beat the dealer by obtaining a total higher than the dealer, without
exceeding 21. You begin by placing a wager in the betting square. Each player
receives two cards, and the dealer receives one card. Cards are dealt face-up.
Please remember, only the dealer may touch the cards.
Card
Values
- Face Cards (Kings,
Queens, Jacks) have a value of 10
- Numbered cards are
worth their face value except Ace, which can count as 1 or 11.
Player
Options
- Stand - stay with the
cards dealt; a horizontal hand motion means stand
- Hit - receive
additional card(s); a gentle tap or scratch on the table indicates hit
- Doubledown - double
your original bet and receive one additional card only. Doubledown on
Blackjack is not permitted.
- Split - Two cards of
equal value may be split into two separate hands. In order to split, you just
lay down an additional bet, equal to your original bet. If you receive two
Aces, and choose to split, you get only one additional card to play with each
Ace.
- Surrender - allowed on
the original two- card hand except a dealer "Blackjack."
- Insurance - pays 2 to
1.
After
all the players have played, the dealer's hand is completed;
- If the dealer's hand
totals 17 or more the dealer must stand.
- if the dealer's hand is
less than 17, the dealer must hit (take additional card)
- If the dealer's hand
totals 17 or more, but contains an Ace (which can count as 11), the dealer
must hit (called "soft 17").
